And a Happy New year to you and your good friends too
We also saw a sparrowhawk but it was much further away so even with a 200mm telephoto lens it was only a tiny part of the middle of the frame. This is the best I can do:

This is very reminiscent of a picture provided at another time in another place.stuck wrote:...so I took his picture

That picture was taken three years ago (22 December 2007) by a friend of mine, and I posted it with his consent in Woody's Lounge.
Best wishes,

European robins (if the British will forgive me for including them in Europe) do look like that!
Best wishes,
Hans

Leave it to the Brits to have a robin that doesn't look like a robin.HansV wrote:European robins (if the British will forgive me for including them in Europe) do look like that!

Hey! The American Robin was named after the European Robin!

Re: He looked at me...
This beautiful sparrowhawk came and sat on the fence outside our lounge for about 20 minutes. Despite me lurking at the patio door and taking photos like crazy, it just sat there until it was ready to go. Beautiful but oh so deadly.

Re: He looked at me...
I didn't think so either, until I looked it up (before I saw these subsequent posts) and I must say American robins signify the arrival of the Vernal Equinox here aka Spring, soI wondered if they signaled the same thing in the U.K.? I read at the site below;viking33 wrote:That's a ROBIN? I don't think so?
Bluebird?
"...Robins are territorial all year round; during the spring and summer this territoriality is for breeding, but at other times individual robins hold territories for feeding. Robins will defend their territories to the death, and so in the poem "Who killed Cock Robin?", another Robin rather than a sparrow would be more likely:
Who killed Cock Robin?
I said the Sparrow,
With my bow and arrow,
And I killed Cock Robin....

BTW every photograph on this thread is breathtakingly gorgeous~!~!
I also can't wait to see my first robin of twenty eleven

European robins are partially residential, partially migratory, so we may encounter robins all year long - they don't signify a particular season.
Best wishes,
Hans
