Win XP Sp3 USB Mouse Device Failures
Hi All - running into a sporadic issue with USB mice not working. After the user boots the PC, logs in and begins to work, during the course of the day the mouse (optical) will stop working. The Device Manager settings are normal with the exception of not listing a Mice\Pointing Device category. We've done some troubleshooting with this issue but cannot nail this down. Sometimes the user will plug in the mouse into a different USB port, and it will begin working. Other times that's not the case. Sometimes a PC reboot will work. Sometimes a Scan for Hardware Changes will locate the mouse devices, sometimes it will not. Has anyone else run into this issue? We use IBM Lenovo PCs and Mice.

Have you tried a system restore on any to a time when it was working correctly?
Have you tried swapping mice between systems?
If a mouse driver is required, is it up-to-date?
