Something must have gone very wrong with your installation of Outlook if the update is listed in your update history but is not available for uninstall, and if uninstalling / reinstalling doesn't fix the problem. Somehow I don't think the December 14 update is the only culprit, and there may not be an easy solution for your problems.
Do you live in the USA or Canada? If so, this mess-up may well qualify you for a free support call to Microsoft.

Re: Outlook 2007: problems with KB2412171 (14 December 2010)
As previously stated, I did uninstall KB2412171 and it resolved my issues... similar to yours.SecretAgentWoman wrote:OOOOhhh I'm so angry. I can clearly see it was installed on the 15th, but it NEVER appeared on my uninstall list, and doesn't to this moment. Microsoft did something to remove it from my uninstall list, but didn't fix the issue.
AFTER the uninstall, the Review of installed updates shows that it is still there: However, going to the Uninstall segment shows that KB2412171 is not there... AND, all the installed dates for other updates throughout the year have been changed to the date that I uninstalled the offending KB: Now you did say that you uninstalled all the updates that were posted on 12/15... which included several updates, KB2412171 being among them. I would suspect the Review panel and Uninstall panel would be similar to mine?
Did you run another Windows Update session to re-install the deleted KBs of the 15th?

The update history is just that - a list of when which update was installed. It will list all updates ever installed, including those that were uninstalled later on.

Bob, yes, it is listed in the update history. NO, it was NEVER listed in the list of updates available for UNinstall in the CP. So, it was installed, but at some point, MS removed it from my install/uninstall list so I cannot do what they themselves recommend to fix the issue.
After I uninstalled everything within the date range, I rebooted and ran windows update again, re-installed whater MS has out there. Still have the issues with the slowness switching folders and NO archive options anywhere.

Really confusing. It would be nice if the MS process could say that the KB was uninstalled instead of giving a date when it was installed.HansV wrote:The update history is just that - a list of when which update was installed. As a side issue Belarc Advisor does not indicate that KB2412171 is installed... and the date of all the other updates indicate the true date installed not that pseudo date of 2010.12.21.
And to add more confusion... System Information for Windows shows the KB2412171 in the list of installed updates.
Sheeesssshhhh

Found an article which tells us what we already know... with another tidbit and possible solution. Not sure I agree with their suggestion of uninstalling all of Office 2007, but I guess that might be one approach.SecretAgentWoman wrote:Bob, yes, it is listed in the update history....

Depending on your circumstances it might be easier to await for the MS fix. Seeing as how they have admitted to really messing up, I would think a fix might be on the doorstep.

Update: Microsoft has reissued KB2412171 on 11 January 2011
I installed the new version and none of the problems resurfaced, so it looks like they got it right this time.
