Is it possible by some formatting trick to have A1 contain i (Roman numeral 1),
A2 contain =A1+1,
A3=A2+1
and so on, so that successive vertical cells appear as
i
ii
iii
iv
v
...
?
Like you can do with Word numbering?

Re: Incrementing Roman numerals
No, but you can enter 1 in A1, =A1+1 in A2 etc., and then have the corresponding Roman numerals displayed in column B:
In B1, enter the formula =ROMAN(A1) and fill down; this will result in I, II, III, IV, ...
If you prefer lower case, use =LOWER(ROMAN(A1))
If desired, you could now hide column A.

Best wishes,
