Layout and View Options

Post by weese237 »

Hello,

In all previous versions of windows that I know of, when you were in a folder or file explorer, and you clicked on the "view" tab, otherwise known as the "Layout and View Options", you could hover over each in the list of options and it would automatically show a sample of what each option would look like before you chose.
I can't find where that option is so I can get it back. Or is it gone in Windows 11?

Thanks

The ribbon of Windows Explorer in Windows 11 has three tabs: File, Computer and View.

The Layout group of the View tab lists the options. Moving the mouse pointer over an option provides a preview.

By default, File Explorer in Windows 11 uses what Microsoft calls the Command Bar. If you wish to restore the Windows 10 style ribbon see the directions in Restore Classic File Explorer with Ribbon in Windows 11.

Hi,

Thanks for the info! I don't have a ribbon in mine. Don't think I ever used a ribbon before! I'll check out the Restore that Joe mentioned as I miss the ability of using the mouse pointer over an option which provided a preview.

Thanks!

Don't you have the bar with File, Computer and View at the top? Or with File, Home, Share and View, depending on what Windows Explorer shows.
That's what I erroneously called the ribbon - it is the command bar, as JoeP pointed out.
Best wishes,
Hans

You can change the Windows Explorer view options in Windows 10 by holding the control button and using the scroll button on the mouse.

_.... which is option 1 way in that referenced windows 11 article.
I just took a look at XP, Vista and Windows 7 and I get similar results in Vista and Windows 7. So it looks like that holding the control button and using the scroll wheel way is a long standing windows thing that has been around for a while ( and maybe will be available for a while… until Microsoft notice and so get rid of it, Lol…)
I seriously don’t ever try to annoy. Maybe I am just the kid that missed being told about the King’s new magic suit, :(
