I get this NVIDIA problem most days
It happens most days but not every day.
It has been happening for quite a while now, months in fact, it has got to the annoying stage.

Try setting "Power management mode" from Adaptive to Maximum Performance
To change this setting, with your mouse, right-click over the Windows desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel" -> from the NVIDIA Control Panel, select the "Manage 3D settings" from the left column -> click on the Power management mode drop down box and select "Prefer Maximum Performance". Click over the "Apply" button at the bottom of the panel to apply the changes.

You could try the following:
Go to http://www.geforce.com/drivers" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and download the latest driver for your computer.
During installation, there is an option to perform a 'clean' install - choose this.

Re: I get this NVIDIA problem most days
That "clean" install feature is great. Used it for the first time a couple of days ago when updating to the current drivers was stalling. I had always used the Express Installation which loaded all components of the GEForce package. Running the clean install allowed me the opportunity to select the graphic driver only while ridding the system of all old components.
The only additional comment I would make is that the clean install is not available on the "normal" screen... only available by selecting Custom Installation.

Thought I would follow your lead and get some of that excess GForce junk cleaned out but I was not offered either a Custom or a Clean install, just the usual total "experience" install.BobArch2 wrote:That "clean" install feature is great. What did I miss here?
Do I unstall NVIDIA manually myself and then try the install from scratch?

Once the WIn8.1 package was downloaded:

Selecting the Custom Option presented the Clean Install Option and allowed for component select. I elected to take the graphics driver only.

Re: I get this NVIDIA problem most days
I DL the latest NVIDIA drivers, then uninstalled the old NVIDIA drivers and files using a 3rd party uninstaller ( Advanced Uninstaller ), then I ran the installer package and was offered the custom and clean install. Selected just the new drivers and it ran fine without all of that other stuff.
Thank you, Bob

Re: I get this NVIDIA problem most days
Al good things seem to come to an end.
Still no good, not as often though.
I have put the screen on full brightness and that seems to have quietened it somewhat.
I will report back.

Re: I get this NVIDIA problem most days
I am still getting the problem. I used GeForce_Experience_v2.5.15.54.exe to reinstall the drivers, but there was no "Clean" option.
Where do I get the new drivers from?
Where do i get the installer that shows the "Clean" option, before installing the drivers?
Do I use Control Panel to uninstall the NVidia drivers?
I need help.
Hope you all had a merry xmas.
BTW Happy New Year.

PAT: Thanks Bob and Viking but I was asking specific questions, bit of a dumbo actually.

QUESTION: Where do I get this and what is it called?

Sorry for the strange post.

Pat,
a) Is it correct that you have 64-bit Windows 8.1?
b) What is the model number of your NVidia card?

Re: I get this NVIDIA problem most days
Lacking an answer to the above:
- Go to NVIDIA Driver Downloads.
- Under Option 1, select your video card series, then the actual video card.
- Select your operating system and preferred language.
- Click Search.
- When the driver has been found, click Download, then click Agree and Download.
- You can either run the installation file directly, or download it to disk first, then run it.

Re: I get this NVIDIA problem most days
Stay away from using GeForce Experience. That "overhead" control tries to be all things and will not present the Clean Option.Pat wrote:I am still getting the problem. I used GeForce_Experience_v2.5.15.54.exe to reinstall the drivers, but there was no "Clean" option.
Use Hans' link above to get the actual driver for your video card and follow the instructions given by Hans, or refer back to my earlier posting shown above.
I would highly recommend that when you get to the Custom Install which will allow the Clean Install that you select the graphic driver only and not select the other 5 or 6 optional apps.

Bob

Hi Hans, I have Windows 8.1 64 bit.
Thank you for the link, do I need to uninstall any drivers first?
I am using that link and there is no "clean" option, oh well, here goes.
Thanks Bob for the extra info.

Re: I get this NVIDIA problem most days
It shouldn't be necessary to uninstall the current driver first, but you can try that if you wish (Windows should use the built-in driver if you do).
Best wishes,
Hans
