Office 2016 available later this year

Post by Rudi »

... Simultaneously, we are hard at work on the next release of the Office desktop suite that will be called Office 2016. (Unexpected, I know!) We will have more to share on Office 2016 in the coming months, but this suite will remain the comprehensive Office experience you’re long familiar with, best suited for a PC with keyboard and mouse. We have compelling new experiences coming as part of this Office suite–stay tuned to the Office Blog for more details. We expect to make Office 2016 generally available in the second half of 2015. ...

Today (March 16, 2015), Microsoft has announced the Office 2016 IT Pro and Developer Preview - the first public preview of the upcoming version of Microsoft Office.

the preview is not intended for production use - as stated in the article:
To be clear, this early build doesn’t yet contain all the features we’re planning to ship in the final product.
If you would like to test-drive the new Office, please install it on a separate computer or boot partition, not on your main one.
Best wishes,
Hans

I'm very pleased to see this paragraph...
Office 2016 IT Pro and Developer Preview wrote: Macros and Add-ins — We’re not making any changes to Macros or Add-ins in this release. It’s rare that “no changes” is a something we’d want to highlight, but we think it’s worth celebrating the consistency in the programming model across releases. We understand how important this is and we’re committed to a high level of compatibility as we continue to innovate. (See dev.office.com for more on how we’re innovating in Office extensibility.)

If screenshots are true, and even if they are it's early, it seems like the tab names on the ribbon has gone back to using initial capital letters, as in Office 2007 and 2010. Why did they change that in Office 2013? A cleaner look? Office 2013 has to be the most unappealing version so far.

Agree with Stuart, few changes are sometimes welcome.

You are correct Argus, and that's exactly where it is now.
