Hello -
Suddenly cannot create a Restore point. I tried turning off my AV while restoring, tried in Safe Mode. Tried various dates, I have not been successful. Message is 'Your computer cannot be restored to [date].
Is there a solution out there?
Thank you.

Re: System Restore - cannot
Have you had a look at these possible solutions? Is is possible that you don't have enough disk space remaining to create another restore point (grasping at straws here).

Have you checked your System Date?

Thanks Bob and John -
Yes, System Date is ok. Yes, I have enough disk space available.
When I looked at Event Log for 'sr' I have 'The System Restore filter encountered the unexpected error '0xC0000043' while processing the file '' on the volume 'HarddiskVolume1'. It has stopped monitoring the volume.'
On 5/16/2014 I see 'The System Restore filter encountered the unexpected error '0xC0000001' while processing the file '' on the volume 'HarddiskVolume1'. It has stopped monitoring the volume.'
On May 2, 'The System Restore filter encountered the unexpected error '0xC0000043' while processing the file '' on the volume 'HarddiskVolume1'. It has stopped monitoring the volume.'
I am pretty sure I was able to successfully perform a Restore after this date....

Re: System Restore - cannot
Don't know if this is relevant but I seem to recollect some time ago now that a similar problem was discussed in the Lounge - one of the points made at the time was that (depending on which AV you have) turning off your AV isn't necessarily enough. Some AV's - and Norton is one - have a safeguard that stops anything tampering with their software (which includes system restore), even when the program isn't active. With Norton, to turn this safeguard off, you have to select 'settings'; 'general'; 'Norton Product Tamper Protection' - and turn it off.

Thank you, Keith.
My AV is Avast and even though in the past I had been able to restore a point with it running, I disabled it on one of my tries to get to a restore point - without any luck.
Do appreciate your post.

Try the Microsoft error repair tool.
Despite it's name, I'm not sure if it's actually a Microsoft issued item.
You can D/L and read info about it at:
http://www.microsoftfixit.net/fix-micro ... xc0000043/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No, that site is not from Microsoft. It's registered to the UK firm Webfusion Ltd.
Best wishes,

Thanks, Guys -
Even though RegCurePro did find hundreds of errors, am reluctant to proceed because I've read how registry cleanup programs can cause more harm than good. Plus, one is notified only after running the scan that mney is involved.
Is there an alternative approach?
(I did try to restore to Last good configuration via Safe Mode menu: didn't work.)
(also, and don't know if this is telling or not, but in last days I have not been able to stream live radio....)

Did you get RegCurePro from the site mentioned by Viking33? I'm afraid it's a scam - don't let it "clean" your registry!
Best wishes,

Yes, but I didn't pay so I guess (hope) I haven't done any additional harm....

When I went back to RegCure to exit the screen, it now said 6 problems, not the hundreds it first came up with, and those problems were:

Those are probably references to ActiveX controls that no longer exist on your PC. Such entries are useless but also harmless. I'd leave them alone.
Best wishes,
