Stand Alone Flash Player
I created several games in SWF format using Swish. I can play them in a stand alone Flash player on Windows 7 but this doesn't work correctly on Windows 8. Does anyone know how I can run interactive Swf files without using a web browser? Thanks.

Does "Windows Flash Player 11.9 Projector" work? You can download it from http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (note: the download is the player itself, not an installer).
Best wishes,
Hans

Thanks, I tried that and also in compatibility mode for Windows 7. Unfortunately while it opens a file it doesn't work properly.

Thanks, Hans, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO flags that as PUP.Opional.Freemium.A so I wonder if it is really safe to install?

I wouldn't risk it. Here is a direct link to the developer's site. The download file from that site is much smaller.
SWF & FLV Player for Windows
Edit: MBam reports the same malware, so I wouldn't try that either. Sorry!

Thanks, Hans, curiously VirusTotal reported it as 100% clean and I did try it. Wrong! Horrendous installer. I had to use MBAM and Revo Uninstaller to get rid of it. I also have a disk image and might use that as well. It looks like Microsoft have truly nobbled Flash by integrating it into Internet Explorer.

Re: Stand Alone Flash Player
Can you open the .swf files in another browser, such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox?

I tried it with Palemoon but it treated it as a download. But then I don't want to run it via a browser - it is a local file on my PC.

I'm afraid I'm out of ideas - other SWF players looked even shadier...

I know nothing about games but does this offer a way forward?

Many moons ago I used RadGameTools freebie 'Bink' to convert a series of bitmaps into an animation. Bink is malware free.

Re: Stand Alone Flash Player
Thanks for the link, Ken. Iggy looks interesting but I couldn't find any info about pricing or downloads. I've found that I can convert SWF files to exe files using Swish Studio and these will work on Windows 8. Swish Studio is discontinued and I had to use compatibility mode to get it to work on Windows 7. But for now I do have a solution.

Thanks, that makes me think it is very expensive.
