Re: Which way does she go?
I see her spin both ways. I look away and think about what way she should be spinning, when I look back she is spinning that way.

At first I could only see this spinning clockwise (as seen from above) but I slowly closed my eyes and visualised it spinning the other way and it had reversed when I opened my eyes again.Hey Jude wrote:L > R is all I see

This is definitely a right-brain, left-brain processing;StuartR wrote:At first I could only see this spinning clockwise (as seen from above) but I slowly closed my eyes and visualised it spinning the other way and it had reversed when I opened my eyes again.Hey Jude wrote:L > R is all I see
"...The spinning girl is a form of the more general spinning silhouette illusion. The image is not objectively “spinning†in one direction or the other. It is a two-dimensional image that is simply shifting back and forth. But our brains did not evolve to interpret two-dimensional representations of the world but the actual three-dimensional world. So our visual processing assumes we are looking at a 3-D image and is uses clues to interpret it as such. Or, without adequate clues it may just arbitrarily decide a best fit – spinning clockwise or counterclockwise. And once this fit is chosen, the illusion is complete – we see a 3-D spinning image...."

No matter what, it still makes me" Dizzy, my head is spinning, like a whirlpool it never ends....."StuartR wrote:At first I could only see this spinning clockwise (as seen from above) but I slowly closed my eyes and visualised it spinning the other way and it had reversed when I opened my eyes again.Hey Jude wrote:L > R is all I see
SO after reading the aforementioned post, I shifted my focus to the shadow and could indeed see her going counter-clockwise as well. Years ago the local newspaper posted 3-D photographs and they were always alot of fun seeing what was ostensibly hidden, but in plain view. Fun stuff.

This is one of my favourite illusions. Stare carefully at the picture below for about 30 seconds and the image of a giraffe slowly appears....

http://www.rense.com/general67/street.htm A couple of more tidbits about him and viewing the synchronized swimmer from the "wrong" angle. I would love to see these on any sidewalk. I suppose the closest we come to this in the States are the beach sand sculptures.
