Navigating to files in Word
Is there a shortcut in Word's open dialogue box to navigate to a higher folder or to go back to a previous folder or do users have to click the mouse to press the back and up buttons?
Regards,
JMT

Go to the previous folder: Alt+1.
Up one level: Alt+2.
Up one level: Alt+2.
Best wishes,

More generaslly, Alt+n where n = 1, 2, 3, ..., activates the n-th button in the toolbar at the top of the Open and Save As dialogs.
Alt+0 activates the list of files/folders.
Alt+0 activates the list of files/folders.
Best wishes,

Thanks Hans. Alt+n is going to save me a lot of time. I've been pressing Shift + Tab twice. Also, what do you mean by "n-"? Number of thumb?
Thanks Chris. Which anniversary?

Re: Navigating to files in Word
I meant Alt+1 activates the first button, Alt+2 activates the second button, Alt+3 activates the third button etc.
(BTW this was tested in Word 2003 on Windows XP. In Word 2007 on Windows 7, none of these keyboard shortcuts work)

Does Word 2007 have other shortcuts to these buttons or no shortcuts at all?

Re: Navigating to files in Word
I think it's more Windows 7 than Word 2007 but I'm not 100% certain. In my Word 2007 on Windows 7, Backspace is the shortcut for "one level up". and that seems to be it.

Re: Navigating to files in Word
These short cuts don't seem to work on Word 2007 or Word 2010 on Vista.

Re: Navigating to files in Word
OK, so they're probably specific to Word (or Office) 2003.

I appreciate your sentiments, but you are doomed.jmt356 wrote:Hopefully I'll never be forced to upgrade ... I love my shortcuts.
An example:
My new netbook comes with Win7; Outlook 2000 won't work, just can't run, under Win7 Home premium, so there is a forced upgrade to Office 2002; then (I found) there's a glitch there, so I'm now at Office 2003 with it's "Some program is trying to emit an email .." message and the 5-second delay and the mandatory human intervention ("Click"), and for why? Just because I used the automation features that Microsoft supplys
I know about ClickYes and similar applications, but the main bugaboo was having to upgrade from Outlook 2000 because it was written for a different architecture that was not supported under Win7.
I know about the Win7 version that supports XP compatibility, but again, I'm being forced into purchasing decisions based on how the software developer thinks I should be acting.
The old 16-bit applications that have worked so well for 25 years must be discarded because we don't support those anymore ...
It seems a shame to jettison something that works. e.g. SkyGlobe.

Re: Navigating to files in Word
Is there a Word 2003 shortcut to activate the buttons on the left of the open dialogue (My Documents, My Recent Documents, Desktop. etc.)?
