Is it possible to watch a video without an account? My friends don't belong either, so I can't get a video forwarded from them, or whatever the mechanics would be.

If the video was posted as 'public' then no, you don't need to be logged into FB in order to see the video but you might have to click 'not now' on pop-up banners urging you to log in / create an account.

I found the solution:
Type in about:config into address bar. Accept the I'll be careful. Search for network.http.accept-encoding.secure Double click on that line to edit its Value. Delete br (and the comma) and then click OK.
