I need to get a life, this is turning into a HUGE time sink-hole.

Re: The Helix Nebula
That is really good clarity in the central region Ken. Oxygen to the blue channel works a treat.
Feel free to post it up on the Sky Searchers thread! I would point out that there's other data available for download there but I don't want to feed your growing addiction!
Regards
Graeme

Re: The Helix Nebula
It wasn't as simple as that. This version starts with the previous one (Ha -->Red | Nii -->Green | Oiii -->Blue) and then applies the Technicolor effect, which involves inverting the colours in each channel (R-->G, G-->M, B -->Y). There was then a lot of messing with curves etc. as well.
I wondered about uploading it to Sky Searchers but it's not somewhere I'm likely to frequent. Much as I'm tempted by astrophotography the capital outlay required is beyond my budget! Feel free to post it on my behalf if you wish.

Re: The Helix Nebula
Thanks for the Vimeo Ken. I'll try the Technicolor effect in Gimp.
I'll post a copy of that version on Sky Searchers for you. You would have to join up to do it yourself. Although non optics owners are always welcome!

Re: The Helix Nebula
If you have the budget for your astro kit you should be able to afford a copy of Affinity Photo, it's a mere £48.99. However, if you wait a few more days until Black Friday, then, if they do the sort of offer they've done in previous years, you'll get it even cheaper, possibly as low as half price. At that sort of money it's rude not to buy.
Thanks.
Ken

What is life, but a huge time sink-hole?
As Richard Dawkins said, and I paraphrase, "We stand centre-stage for seventy years, and then the spotlight moves off, stage right, stuck as we are between those two awe-full eternities".
I'm off to buy some bananas from Foodland while the time is ripe ...
Cheers

Re: The Helix Nebula
Have you seen what that thing cost? I'm skint now!!!
Gimp is free and an excellent piece of software. I'll probably stick with that for now.
