I am trying to learn Open Office rather than continuing to buy MS Office products. I just found out that OO is much pickier about file extensions than MS products. For example, OO treats csv as apread sheet file, and the same file with a txt extension as a word processing file.
I hope this forum is ok with my putting OO stuff up.
Is anyone else playing with OO?

Re: Open Office
I'm not sure OOo is any more picky than MS Office. If I double click on a .csv XL automatically kicks in, always has done but if I right click I can open with wehat ever I want (and I often want to open a .csv with Word).
However, if .txt used to open with Notepad and now OOo Writer has taken over then I'd guess that during the OOo installation it changed some of your Windows file associations.
If you open Explorer and click Tools | Folder Options, then select the Filte Types tab you can see what is associated with what. You can also Reset things back to the Windows default by selecting the 'offending' extension and using the Rest button.
