If you experience the problem that Windows 10 resets the default program for a file type such as .pdf, .jpg, .mp3 or .htm to a native Windows 10 app (Edge, Photos, Zune Music) instead of your own favorite program, you can prevent this by applying a registry fix. See The WinHelpOnline Blog. It worked well for me; no reboot is needed.
This is an example of the error message:

Re: A fix for "An app default was reset"
Additional remark: you may have to reapply the registry fix each time Microsoft updates apps such as Edge or Photos.
Yesterday, a slew of apps was updated on my Windows 10 PC, and the "An app default reset" problem resurfaced. Fortunately, I had kept the .reg file, so it was corrected immediately, but I find the way Microsoft keeps pushing its own apps very annoying.
