This is just a heads-up for owners of NVidia cards.
A few days after it was released on August 13, I installed the latest NVidia GeForce driver for 64-bit Windows 10, version 355.60.
Since then, several times a day I got an error message that the video driver had crashed and recovered.
Yesterday, I decided to reinstall the previous version 353.62. No problems since then.

Re: Problems with NVidia GeForce 355.60 driver
Thank you, Hans!
I don't think I'm nearly as current on my driver but I did have to install a new one for Windows 10.

Re: Problems with NVidia GeForce 355.60 driver
I am running 355.60 in both Win8.1 (Primary in dual boot) and Win10 Insider Preview (Secondary in Dual boot). This is with a GeForce GTX 560 GPU. You may remember that a few months ago, the Win10 Insider Preview driver for my GPU kept crashing the system. I cannot recall the version that caused the crashes.
No problems in either environment so far. Notwithstanding that most of my time is spent in Win8.1 and only logging in about 2-3 hours every other day in Win10.
For the Win10 install of the current NVIDIA drivers, I downloaded them directly from the NVIDIA site.
Hans, since you have gone back to an earlier version, would it not be possible that the WU routine would force the install of 355.60 upon your system?

Up to now, Windows hasn't overridden the version(s) I installed manually.
Best wishes,

Re: Problems with NVidia GeForce 355.60 driver
This morning, NVidia advised me that there was a GeForce Windows 10, 64 bit driver update available, released 24th August. I have a GeForce 210 with driver 341.74. The driver update offered was 341.81 which I have duly installed with no (apparent) problems. Given that everyone seems to be talking about 355.xx am I correct in assuming that different graphics cards warrant different drivers? - ie, it's not 'one size fits all'? It's just that everyone seems to be talking about the same drive update but surely, not everyone has the same graphics installed?
Confused of Whitehaven!

Re: Problems with NVidia GeForce 355.60 driver
The 353.62 and 355.60 drivers are for relatively new NVidia cards such as the 400, 500, etc. series. Older cards don't support these drivers.
The 341.74 and 341.81 drivers are for some older cards such as the 200 and 300 series.

Re: Problems with NVidia GeForce 355.60 driver
A short while ago I dual booted into Win10 Insider Preview to test some settings. Once logged in, I changed the driver update option to not allow MS to update drivers as you pointed out in another posting. I then went checking for updates and the system started to download and install a new build - 10532. Once that was completed I noticed that the NVIDIA icon was flagging that there was a new driver.HansV wrote:Up to now, Windows hasn't overridden the version(s) I installed manually.
Prior to installing Build 10532, I was running with NVIDIA driver 355.60, without any issues, as previously reported. After the installation of Build 10532, the driver was set to 353.82, an earlier version. I then invoked the NVIDIA update routine and am now running with 355.82.

Re: Problems with NVidia GeForce 355.60 driver
355.82 was released yesterday (31 August 2015); it is the generic Geforce driver for the 400, 500, 600, 700 and 900 series graphics cards.
353.82 was released on the 12th of August, it is labeled "Quadro Desktop/Quadro Notebook Driver Release"...

Re: Problems with NVidia GeForce 355.60 driver
I'd like to find an update for DRIVERS ONLY, for my NVIDIA GT610. Seems every site has a ton of extra crap included with the new driver. Lots of stuff aimed at Gamers and most DLs are more than 450 MB. Just for drivers!

Re: Problems with NVidia GeForce 355.60 driver
I'd download from the NVidia site, not from third-party driver sites.
The downloads are big indeed. But if you select Custom during installation, you can uncheck all extras, and install only the graphics driver itself.
