I have tried to get chkdsk /f to run on a Win XP SP3 machine and it won't run as it says it will at reboot or restart. I enter the command in the command prompt window and I get no message about not being an administrator or anything other than choosing "Y" or "N" to run when the computer reboots. Any ideas what is happening and how I can make this machine run the chkdsk /f? I only entered that command once to see if it would run and I planned on running it with a /r later but so far I have had no luck running it at all.
Thanks.

Re: chkdsk /f won't run at boot up
You have to specify a drive.
The /f switch means repair without scanning the drive for errors; I'm not sure you'd want that option. Perhaps you should try
chkdsk c:
first - this will run chkdsk in read-only mode. See How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP.

Re: chkdsk /f won't run at boot up
Thanks Hans I;ll give that a try but to be honest with you I have never before had to specify C: when running it on any of my own computers. This one isn't mine and it does seem to have many drives on it so maybe that is the answer.
