Since it is a palindrome without the first letter, you could stick the first letter onto the back-end of the word and read it backwards

Good try but Rudi is right if you take the first letter from each word and put it at the end it becomes a palindrome of the original word (or more correctly it reads the same backwards as it did forwards)
