Hit enter twice when searching from address bar?
Since a few weeks (?) when I type something in the address (URL) field of my IE11, two things can happen:
1. If what I type is a valid URL, I'm immediately brought there (as normal)
2. If I type something to search (or something that isn't -directly- a url) and hit enter, sometimes the 'search' URL for Google (my default search engine) forms in the address bar but it's as if it misses the "Enter" at the end to actually DO that search... So nothing changes in IE, if I hit Enter again the search executes as normal
I've never seen this. All is normal on my system, no toolbars, no malware, nothing strange (I'm sure!)
Clues?

I suppose this might be the obvious first question...
Have you tried cleaning out your Internet Cache and Cookies?
Maybe that will resolve it.

Yep, run CCleaner regularly. Note that everything else is normal. Pages open as they should.

Have you tried starting Internet Explorer without add-ons?
Windows 7 has a start menu option for this: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).
Windows 8: press WinKey+R. Enter iexplore -extoff in the box and press Enter.
Does the problem persist without add-ons?

If you run out of ideas...see this comprehensive list, though I doubt that 90% of it would be applicable....

That list has some simple stuff but also some more fundamental stuff. I'm not ready yet to go reset everything... Was hoping someone out here had seen this before too...Rudi wrote:If you run out of ideas...see this comprehensive list, though I doubt that 90% of it would be applicable....

Another thing to try:
- Start Internet Explorer.
- Press F12 to open the Developer Tools pane.
- Press F12 to hide it again.
- Close Internet Explorer.
- Start Internet Explorer and check whether the problem persists.
If that didn't help, try resetting Internet Explorer (the first suggestion in Rudi's link):
- Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Reset... button.
If that doesn't help either, you could try a system restore to before the problem began. (If you have installed a lot of software in the meantime, that may not be feasible)

Re: Hit enter twice when searching from address bar?
The F12 trick didn't help. Before I reset, can I 'capture' how IE was so I can return to where I was if that doesn't help too.
(a system restore is too much -and not possible anymore)

If reset does not work, switch to Chrome

Re: Hit enter twice when searching from address bar?
I did a reset (after the backup of settings)... still have the problem, can you believe that?
Update: I now started with Add-ons disabled and it seems to work normal now. I'll do some checks and will then report back here...

Re: Hit enter twice when searching from address bar?
Sorry for the delays... it's irregular. Often it happens, then when I start testing it suddenly works normally. Mysterious

I'm afraid it's impossible to say (for me at least) what causes this. If it really bothers you, you might install Windows from scratch. It'll make your computer run faster too...

Re: Hit enter twice when searching from address bar?
I was sick of it so I uninstalled IE11 (to try reinstalling); uninstall went fine, I rebooted; IE10 works. Now I want to install IE11 again and that fails :-(
Both from Windows Update and from a download. I looked at IE11_main.log but that doesn't help me too much, I see an error:
00:33.728: INFO: Process exit code 0x00003715 (14101) [The identities of the manifests are identical but their contents are different. ]
00:33.728: ERROR: Neutral package installation failed (exit code = 0x00003715 (14101)).
Searching the net shows more people who have this but I don't seem to find a solution... Anyone? Please?
BTW, I have Win7 64 English

Re: Hit enter twice when searching from address bar?
This is more of an exploratory reply, but is there any reason why you are persisting with IE?
How about Chrome, Firefox?

Re: Hit enter twice when searching from address bar?
You might try using Revo Uninstaller Free to remove all traces of Internet Explorer, then reinstall IE11.

Agree, but I never had issues with IE. Going to something else is a workaround...Rudi wrote:This is more of an exploratory reply, but is there any reason why you are persisting with IE?

Re: Hit enter twice when searching from address bar?
IE is an MS update, it's not present in the 'installed programs' list. So Revo doesn't see it (I do use Revo)... Same for e.g. CCleanerHansV wrote:You might try using Revo Uninstaller Free to remove all traces of Internet Explorer, then reinstall IE11.
Update: I see "Show Updates" now but there's no IE

You may be forced to perform a clean install of Windows...
