Twitter no longer allowing anon viewing

Post by stuck »

I don't have a Twitter account but one of my sons does so I occasionally look at his profile to see if he's made a Tweet. Today though I can't get to his profile, I get redirected to a login / create an account page. A quick search turns up this article on ghacks that offers a workaround:

I saw that, yes, that's probably why I can't see his feed any more. Meanwhile the nitter workaround I posted has also stopped working.

Thanks Leif.
Have I understood this?
"For new unverified accounts, the number is 500. Meanwhile, accounts with "verified" status are currently limited to 10,000 posts a day."

In the current example, the restriction is not so much on Stuck, but on Stuckson?
That is, the Twitter account of Stuckson is affected directly by this edict.
Common or garden-variety users like Stuck and me are restricted by a side-effect; that is, once Stuckson's limit of 500 is reached, us ordinary readers are out of luck.
Thanks, Chris

So when Ken becomes a grandpa, which one will be Stucklingson?
Thanks, Chris,

So when Ken becomes a grandpa...
There is no sign that that is going to happen any time soon.

More likely it's a less publicised aspect of this new policy. The limits on the number of Tweets you can read in a day vary depending on the type of Twitter account you have. If you pay money you are allowed to read thousands. If you don't pay money you are allowed to read a few hundred. If you have no account at all you can't even see any Tweets, let alone read them.

OK. I read it as "Unless you pay us money, we won't let you read twitter feeds unless they have paid us lots of money".
That is, Twitter was now restricted to people who had paid $$$ per month, and only they could post, or read, tweets.
Cheers, Chris
