SEO

Post by dasadler »

I have looked at various SEO (Search Engine Optimization) companies I have found on line and most of these companies charge a monthly fee ranging from as little as $150/month up to $1000/month. Many are located in India (geographically remote to California, USA). They all promise top 10 (first page) placement on Google and other search engines for a number of key words ranging from 10-30 or more. None of these companies seem to guarantee any results other than a first page placement on Google, Yahoo and Bing. Are there any companies out there that you know of that will do this on a performance based compensation ie. a percentage of the actual sales produced by their efforts? I am trying to decide how to select an SEO company, what to expect by way ROI, and what I should be paying for this type of service.

The administrators of Eileen's Lounge frequently get offers from SEO companies. It all seems a rather shady business. The methods employed by these companies are often doubtful, sometimes bordering on the criminal. Are you sure you want to get involved in this?
Best wishes,
Hans

Actually, I was asking for a friend of mine. I realize that SEO may be more art than science but I believe there are legitimate companies that do this work and that there are legitimate techniques and methods that can be applied on-site and off-site (social networking, blogging, etc). I just thought the collective wisdom of the Lounge could be helpful.

In my experience, it mostly comes down to spamming forums, blogs and social media with messages containing links to the site being pushed, in the hope that search engines will pick up the links and increase the site's search rank. Most forum administrators and bloggers don't look kindly upon this practice.
Best wishes,
Hans

That's pretty much the way I see it also though I lack specific experience with it. My experience in SEO on my websites has been limited to what I could do myself with clever keyword placement and so on.

Hi,

I read the through thread. Per my experience you can easily setup your site SEO without hiring any 3rd party company or person. If you used WordPress.org self hosted platform to build your site, then You can set-up SEO settings by using Yoast SEO plugin (Or something like that..). Plugin documentations will be guide you step by step.

Otherwise you used basic HTML pages to create your site, then you have to do the following things to index your site into search engines.
01. Set meta key words and title:
Use the following example to do that.

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
  <title>Page Title</title>
  <meta charset="UTF-8">
  <meta name="description" content="Page Title">
  <meta name="keywords" content="Content1,Content2">
</head>
<body>
...
</body>
</html>
a. Meta description should be equal to page title to get best result from search engines. (Maximum Charters < 156)
b. Meta Keywords should be contains with your page body content and page title to get best result from search engines. (Don't add more than 5 words)

Please visit If you need any additional details regarding meta key words, descriptions: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_head.asp

2. Generate XML site map and Submit a sitemap to Google Search Console, Bing, Yahoo

3. Link your site with Social media networks (FB, Twitter, G+...etc) to improve SEO and ranking.

Note: Ranking will be depending on page single user visits and search count.

Please reply me if you need any additional support.
