My astrophotography sessions have always been controlled from the pc in my garage with the telescope on the patio on the other end of a 5m USB lead and me wrapped in winter warm multilayers. I'm pleased to say all this has now changed! I've installed Cat5 ethernet cables, brought the pc into the nice warm house and installed a USB to ethernet converter!
So here is NGC 2265, the Christmas Tree Cluster, my first capture using the new setup. I forgot to polar align the telescope in my eagerness to get going and it was a bit too windy for imaging but the craic was had!
I captured 44 x 4 minute sub frames but only 26 were good enough for the final stack.
Captured using NINA, Guided with PHD2, Calibrated in PixInsight, Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker Processed in PixInsight.
North is to the right but I rotated it to make the Christmas tree a bit more obvious (if you squint a bit!)
Regards
Graeme

Re: The Christmas Tree Cluster
Ah, yes, good point, well made, but it was cloudy every night while I was off work for Christmas! First clear night was the 4th!

Re: The Christmas Tree Cluster
I know!
It was actually really frustrating to be off work for 10 days and not having one single clear night! Then when I did manage to get set up I had work the next day! I still managed 5 hours sleep!

The only Xmas tree with a real star on the top.

Re: The Christmas Tree Cluster
My telescope focal length is a little narrow to show the whole thing. As well as the star on top there's a bit more tree at the bottom. The V of red at the top is the cone nebula and the blue reflection nebula at the bottom is the snowflake nebula. Just out of frame is the fox fur nebula. It really needs less wind and more data to show the detail well!

Er.
Rudi.
Wouldn't it be on the bottom, from your point of view?
Cheers
