paraphrasing

Post by stuck »

For want of a nail £1.55 plastic bolt the shoe waste plug was lost.
For want of a shoe waste plug the horse sink was lost.
For want of a horse sink the rider cupboard under the sink was lost.
For want of a rider cupboard under the sink the battle whole kitchen was lost.
For want of a battle whole kitchen the kingdom bank account was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail £1.55.

Actually it turned out a lot better than that. I was able to dry out the cupboard under the sink and, eventually, buy a £1.55 plastic bolt and repair the waste outlet on the sink. My wallet is feeling a lot less traumatised than it did when water first started coming out of the cupboard under the sink and it seemed like the broken part could not be purchased at any of the many plumbers stores in the York area.

It's not too hard to replace the entire waste on a sink

No it's not, but the bit I needed is not readily available as a spare part. Everywhere I tried told me the same thing, that the bit in question comes with the sink so you have get a whole new sink. Several internet searches later though I eventually found a reputable website that did have what I needed and my wallet was spared considerable expense.

In 50 years of home ownership, we have discovered one of the great truths of the universe: "Everything that goes wrong in a house somehow involves water."

That law has a corollary: "Houses eat money." :flee:

Not always water.

We had a full chest freezer in our garage. We didn't realise that the circuit breaker to the garage had turned off power until perhaps a week later.

On the plus side, a little less to be moved in our upcoming relocation.

That's still a problem involving water, a lack of frozen water in the contents of the freezer.
