Ken, very nice, as usual, excellent image, etc etc. etc., but if this keeps up I will have to by an SSD for the folder "T:\Greaves\Products\USER\Wallp\Source", and a larger SSD for "T:\Images\Target" :broke:
Thanks
Chris
P.S. I don't suppose a few shots of puddles would be any better, either, just before you get started (grin!)

Even if all you want to do in the Lake District is stroll around the village shops and sit in tea rooms, take good quality waterproof clothing, including stout footwear.

Oh, and finding a parking space in places like Ambleside and Grasmere is a nightmare.

Oh, and even the 'A' roads are narrow and twisty but are still peppered with signs that say 'series of bends' and 'road narrows' and you then think, "Really?" When you see the same signs on 'B' roads you pray you don't meet something coming the other way as even the designated passing places are not that wide.

Worth it all though.

I know the Lake District well Ken. I vividly remember my first visit there, it rained for an entire week, but we just put on our waterproof clothing and went up the fells.

All reminiscent of the (alleged) American tourist in Windsor who complained,
"I don't know why they didn't build the castle closer to Heathrow Airport..."

Many years ago, my boys renamed 'Glen Ridding' to 'Glen Raining' for the same reason

In adequate weather and tyres with a fair amount of tread thereon, I hope you attempt to traverse the Wrynose Pass and/or the Hardknott Pass and/or the Kirkstone Pass; all three are fairly spectacular, and will accelerate your heart rate. :groovin:

We did the Kirkstone Pass (done it before), it's a piece of cake, it's an 'A' road. Also did the 'down Great Langdale and up and over into Little Langdale' loop. Done that before too, it is more of a challenge than the Kirkstone Pass but not that scary. The Wrynose and Hardknott Passes are on my bucket list, maybe next time.

Meanwhile if I want the thrill of a 1 in 3 gradient there's one not that far from me. About half way down the decent on the A169 from the NY Moors into Whitby (aka Blue Bank) there is a tiny road off to the right, towards Littlebeck that's 'interesting'.

Yes - you will like Hardknott and Wrynose.

There is a stretch of road called the Rosedale Chimney which is very steep (1 in 3). (The link is written for bike riders!)
This may well be the road you refer to, under a different name.

That's near Hutton-le-hole so it's possible I've done it** but it's not the one I was talking about. This Google Street view link take you to the sharp right turn that starts the decent:

**EDITED TO CORRECT MYSELF. We have done it. I don't remember it being that hairy scary though.

Wow! When I was in Glenridding/Glen Raining many years ago (before even the first incarnation of Woody's Lounge existed), the clouds around the top never parted. The beck through the village was spectacular, though, because of all the rain.
Best wishes,
Hans

I know what you mean, a bit like this, which is the lower end of Dungeon Ghyll in Gt Langdale.
