which one is correct?

Post by BittenApple »

Hello team,
I have a report that numbers in a column appear as 15.42%. I wonder to convert this number to a number with two decimal place should I multiply the number by 100 or format it as number with 2 decimals. Which one is correct?
I am confused.

If the value is a real number, not a text value looking like a number, then the underlying stored value is 0.1542
If you format this as number with 2 decimal places, you'll see 0.15
If you want the result to be 15.42 (without a % sign), you'll have to multiply the value with 100 in a formula, and format the cell with the formula as number with 2 decimal places.
Best wishes,
Hans
