Then I realize that while I have dozens of acquaintances, I don't have any friends.
You have friends here, Chris!
Well, yes, Hans, and thank you for pointing that out.

So. Which members of Eileen's Lounge are active on Facebook?

OK. I know that I have friends here, and they are the best of friends. So far away that I never have to rush over and help them out in a crisis.
Although if there is a chance of using someone as an excuse for international travel, or a ride on a train, that will seal the deal.

I think that my first FTF meeting with an Email buddy was when Marcus Carrol came to Toronto around 1985, I wonder where he is now, and whether he still plays Diplomacy.
Also Wossname of Trenton NJ who used one of my macros to assemble his book.
Not to mention the gang on the BBS in Terrace BC, or the crowd from The Blue Flame in Dallas.

Cheers

Not to step out-of-bounds, but I must mention that many Americans are not happy with fb et alia and for what I deem good reason.
Well, I guess that this morning I gave them One More Good reason.

Fortunately I have no idea which side of the US political divide supports or opposes Facebook, so I can't accuse you all of being political and lock this thread!

Well thanks to Ken, my last-year's leanings have been exposed. I am, as they say, out of the wardrobe(0).

But let's me see if I understand this: I can free up a large chunk of each day for more book-reading if I post something political, for example "Why I won't be supporting the Green Party next year"?

Then if I start a new thread and state "Why I will be supporting the Green Party next year", y'all will let me back in?

And might you please elaborate on that "accuse you all "(1)? If I can tempt, say, Rudi, into joining in this thread and then he gets locked out, or perhaps up(2), would his absence affect us? Would his lack of presence matter?

I have lost my train of thought at this point, and the footnotes are gaining on me, so I will close now.
Cheers
Chris
P.S. Did y'all notice how I managed to change that minus-sign into a negative sign?

Hi Ken.

Good find, especially as it show me obeying The Boy Scout Motto "Be Prepared".
My sensitive antennas have detected just a whiff of a vehicular attack on my hallowed ground and I am going to continue to repel boarders once I dart back inside to turn down the rabbit stew and extract the apple pie.

"celebrating the marriage of two dear friends" had me worried for a while. It is a bit late in life for me to start cooking for two.

I can't wait to submit this password to APG!!!

Well that is going to save me a bundle on TGV fares next time I stay in Poissy!

I suspect that you are rather like my ex-Friend Tom - a rather boring person.

Get with the program, Hans.
The Dutch have invoked Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle: https://apnews.com/article/crane-lifts- ... a27cca68cd
And here I quote (my emphasis):-
"The train was empty at the time it crashed onto the sculpture and the driver escaped unhurt, thanks to the whale tail’s unlikely catch."

Now I can't be certain that would dis-qualify you from boring but
(a) If they ever decide to put the Metro trains underground, "boring" could be your redeeming characteristic and
(b) I forgot my second point because I have just remembered that the apple pie should be cool enough to sample.
Cheers

Well, no, of course not(1)

But here on the tip of the Bonavista Peninsula some of use have been wondering what kind of barriers they don't have at the end of the line of an elevated train.
An Empty train might explain "runaway", as might an incapacitated driver (who then could not Escape), but we might be wandering off topic here.
So let me close by stating that I have reverted to the old Facebook design, even tho' I had not verted at the time I signed up earlier this morning. Now if I ever "revert" I shall be at the forefront of progress!

Since there has been some comments, I'll try to counter Chris' atempt to return to topic; yes, I saw some images; indeed a lucky driver and outcome.

Well, we had a commuter train crash into a house in the middle of the night some years ago with no driver onboard ... but a young woman doing some cleaning; a different case of "empty".

By the way, smart of them to use cranes, they have long legs, but I didn't know they were that strong.

Hi Ken. (Scottish for "know")
I knew I'd seen that photo somewhere.
Paris_0914141355-00.jpg
Tuesday, September 16, 2014 "A photo of a photo in my luncheon restaurant. Look up “Train Crash Montparnasse” on the web."
Paris_HPIM7896.JPG
I didn't dare take this photo until the man had gone, but he was about 50 years old and had red hair. He sat at the table with his head facing me, between Van Gogh and Chaplin. He looked like part of the mural. It was uncanny.
Cheers

Hi Ken.
I take a moment to tentatively drift back towards topic.

I read about this in the Welcome screens and pages.
When one is INactive (as are you), are you still able to make use of Facebook to, say, order things, or visit FaceBook-only pages, or is "deactivate" more the sort of thing one would do if one was going to prison for three years?

I suspect that a de-activated account means that everything about you, posts, photos, account data, is still spinning around on Facebook's disk drives, and hence is available for Facebook to re-activate your account at your request, but a de-activated account is only available to Facebook's account maintenance procedures.
To the rest of the world (including me), it looks as if you never had a Facebook account.

If my supposition is correct, then the following thought might have occurred to my acquaintances in the past:-

Code: Select all

Let's look for Chris on Facebook.
(Find)
That's odd, he doesn't show up.
I'd have thought that a nerd like Chris would be into Facebook.
Perhaps he is on Facebook, but he has de-activated his account.
Cheers
Chris
