uBlock Origin - RIP?

Post by PaulB »

I've been using uBlock Origin for a number of years now and have been very happy with it. Today I launched Firefox and noticed ads all over the place. A bit of research revealed that Firefox had disabled uBO.

Does anyone have any background on this and any suggestions for a replacement?

Mozilla has let a certificate expire that many developers have used to sign their Firefox add-ons. As a result, those add-ons have been disabled by Firefox. Once Mozilla has renewed the certificate, the add-ons should work again.
Best wishes,
Hans

Thanks. I still have the problem but I will wait to see if the issue resolves itself. Looks like uBlock Origin is still available for download from Mozilla.

Oddly enough, I've had no problem with any of my Firefox extensions.

It depends on whether extensions used this particular certificate from Mozilla.
Also, it may take time before Firefox checks the certificate. I was able to use my extensions most of yesterday, long after the problem kicked in. Sometime in the evening, they were disabled...

Hans

Firefox 66.0.4 has been released. If it is not installed automatically, select the hamburger menu > Help > About Firefox.

My add-ins are working again.
Best wishes,
Hans

My desktop didn't get bitten by this bug and initially my netbook was OK too but late yesterday (Sun 5 May) it choked.

Both machines are on 66.0.4 now and the update has fixed the netbook.
