Source of a photo

Post by JERRY89 »

Dear All,

Recently my company face a problem where a confidential photo leak out and posted in facebook so is there any online software to detect the source of the photo they get. Because no one appear to responsible for it which will cause big issue to us. For example if the photo is downloaded through whatsapp then it will appear who is the one who posted this photo in whatsapp that cause such problems. Really appreciate any expertise to help me on this matter.

Beside that i have tried to search using google image & a software known as Tineye Reverse Image Search but it failed as it is a personal photo uploaded from other social media.

No, as far as I know it is not possible to find out who uploaded a photo to FaceBook unless you can find the original FaceBook post itself.
Best wishes,
Hans

If the photo has not been edited then it will still contain it's EXIF data. The EXIF data won't tell you who uploaded it but it will tell you the make and model of the camera the photo was taken with, which may or may not help you work out where it came from.

Either download a copy of the photo and then open it with a decent image viewer, e.g. IrfanView or Faststone and get at the EXIF data that way. Or install an EXIF Viewer Add-on to Firefox and use that.

I don't understand what you mean. Are you saying that when you tried to add Firefox Add-on that I linked to you get an error message?

Perhaps you're suffering from the bug mentioned in the reviews on the page I linked to. The bottom review says:
Extraordinarily clunky to use. You have to:

Right click on image -> copy link location ->
Tools -> Exif Viewer -> click in form -> paste image link.

What I wanted:

Right click on image -> show metadata

Or that show image info now had a metadata tab.
and then the review above that says:
A note to the previous review. There seems to be a bug in the latest release that makes the right click menu option disappear. Just uninstall and reinstall and it should appear again
Does this help?
