Hi,

I have been using AOEMI Backupper for backups - http://www.backup-utility.com/free-backup-software.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also can verify the backup and send you an email on backup status.

Kindest Regards,

Hi Folks, if you go to http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uni ... nload.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and download the portable version near the bottom, there is a pdf included which I find very useful. It is in zip format & 32.2mb in size.

I'm using 'SRecorder' software to record screen. It's totally free, no adverts, viruses and doesn't require any registration.

TX. Does this app have a time limit for screen recording?

Personally, I recently came across eLecta Live Screen Recorder which has no apparent limits of recording. I do miss some in-recording annotation tools though.

Hi Rudi,

No any recording time limitations on SRecorder.

SRecorder Features:
1. High video and sound quality
2. Can record a video without a sound stream
3. Quickly you can your recoded video with Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus
4. Save video as .mp4 file type.

Earlier I used few screen recorders. But the output video file size too large. SRecorder will produces high-quality videos with a small file size.

Always be careful when installing 'free' software - it often comes with an offer to install extra software which you generally don't want.

I came across this browser (called: SlimJet) recently and have been testing (the portable version) for a few days. It works very well, has a decent and clean interface and has a few features that are of interest;

Popular options built directly into the browser (so no need for external extensions) are:
- An ad blocker
- A high speed download manager
- A Youtube downloader
- Facebook integration (if you need that!)
- Instant photo upload
- Screen recorder
- Advanced anti-tracking options
- See a full listing here (scroll a third way down the page)

Other details:
The browser is completely free (with no adware or spyware.
It is based on the Chromium engine.
It is available as a portable option if you want; (just download the file, run it to decompress it, then double-click the application icon to try the browser. Nothing gets added to your PC's registry, so you can simply delete the downloaded folder if you don't like it, and every trace of the application will be gone. This also means that you can keep it on a USB stick and run it on multiple machines or travel with it.)

Rudi

Sounds similar to SRWare Iron, which I've been using for a while now. Maybe with some additional built-in features.

I've searched Best FREE Software (Used and Rated by Loungers) and can't find it mentioned. LogonStudio is a free program that allows users to change their Windows 7, Vista and XP logon screens. It comes with several logon screens to choose from, along with thousands that are available online from Web sites such as WinCustomize.com.

I've been using it for a number of years now and find it much more pleasing to the eye than the standard Windows log on screen. You can find it at https://www.stardock.com/products/logonstudio" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

On Rudi's suggestion, I have been giving SlimJet a trial this week. So far I'm well pleased. It is noticeably faster than Firefox, my long-time favorite browser.

One thing I've not figuresd out yet is how to display a menu bar (File/Edit/View/...). I'm still training myself to use features that I've never met in a browser before.

There's a lengthy page on all the menu features here but no indication of how to display it, as far as I can see.

Right at the beginning of this thread Rudi mentioned a couple of programmes from the http://www.snapfiles.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; website. I went there to have a look and there is a plethora of free, portable programmes and I found these which I have downloaded to my external hard drive.

PhotoFiltre at http://www.snapfiles.com/get/photofiltre.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
NexusFont at http://www.snapfiles.com/get/nexusfont.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
SpyDetect Free at http://www.snapfiles.com/get/spydetect.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Image To PDF or XPS at http://www.snapfiles.com/get/jpegtopdf.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

PhotoFiltre is much the same as PaintShop Pro Version 6.2 (which I have been using for many years now. I never upgraded to a later version after Corel bought out JASC and ruined the programme) but I will have to work with it to better understand it.

NexusFont is the best font viewer I have come across. Much better than The Font Thing which I have been using.

I downloaded SpyDetect for the occasional check just to make sure I am not being spied on.

Image To PDF or XPS was downloaded for its simplicity.

Worth going to http://www.snapfiles.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to see what’s there. You never know, like me you might something of interest.

Cheers :cheers:

It's still one of my favourite places/resources for freeware and portable apps. I like the look and feel of the site and the navigational options they provide. :thumbup:

If you are getting bored with your current screen capture app, have a look at ShareX in this post.

Its a free (open source) screen capturer with some really great features! Certainly has my :thumbup: !

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post 'free recommendations' but these two are excellent if you are into serious photo editing:

http://rawtherapee.com/downloads

https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

The RAW product is also great for jpeg editing as well as raw files and you can interact between the two software. Plenty of information on the web.

Hi Alan,

The fact that I'm still using it (also having come from a lengthy stint with PicPick) proves to me that I'm liking it.

Some comparisons that I think are better are as follows:
  1. ShareX remembers ones preferred settings in the editor. If I used the step counter in PP, I had to always select red with a black border (my preference). In ShareX it stores the lasted used formatting per control so one does not have to change colours and borders each time!
  2. I like the nodes on the arrow and line tools for bending and arcing the shape. PP had this too, but in ShareX you can add more nodes and the shape feels better.
  3. I like the blur and pixel tools better in ShareX. They are less archaic.
  4. I love the 'Image Combiner' tool to merge two or more screen captures into one image! :thumbup:
  5. Making gif files is a breeze!
  6. I have already used the screen recorder a few times to capture short videos. Works a treat!
  7. I like how the screen capturer snaps to the window and object sizes on the screen. Cropping these too in the editor is quick and easy.
  8. Capturing full page web pages (excellent tool!) and also doing scrolling captures is better than PP.
  9. The Text captured (OCR) is very accurate and I have converted image text into editable text a few times successfully with ShareX. :thumbup:
  10. The fact that one can completely disable the 'sharing' component in the advanced settings is great (since I do not need to share captures immediately). I use this tool daily in a work environment and for documentation.
I could dig up a few more positive comparisons, but I think the above list already sells it for me.

For a free product, ShareX is GREAT! (My new best friend). Kudos to the developer

Rudi
