Not used to windows layout of file explorer

Post by Skitterbug »

Why does the external drives show up twice in the sidebar of file explorer? I don't remember this happening in the older versions of Windows?

Beats Me!
I see a similar behaviour where my Ram disk drive E: shows up twice in the left-hand pane but only once in the right hand pane.
Cheers, Chris

File Explorer displays external drive as separate items, but also as sub-items of This PC (if you look closely, you'll see that the top two ones are indented under This PC).

If it irritates you, you can delete a registry key - see How to Stop File Explorer From Showing External Drives Twice.
Best wishes,
Hans

You chose the right word - irritates! I'll check out your link and think about whether I want to take that step. There ought to be a reason why Microsoft chose to list drives in this manner but what use is it? Does it have something to do with mapping to servers, etc?
Anyway, thanks for your quick response! I appreciate it!
