There are many nav tips and keyboard shortcuts for Win 8. One that I believe needs its own mention in a stand-alone topic is the (contentious) matter of the "missing" shut down button.
Simply go Alt F4 when on the desktop (not whilst IN an app or other open window) and voila! you have shut down/restart/switch user/sleep/sign out options right in front of you.
