I have previously mentioned that the sole bank branch in Bonavista was closing. Scotia-bank closed on September 19th; the bright red lettering was removed that weekend. The good news is that we now have an extra parking lot in Bonavista. The bad news is that no one has any reason to want to use it.
I had wondered how long it would take for this closure to bite me. Eleven days, as it turns out.
Withdrawing cash is not a problem - I can ask any friend to withdraw cash any time they drive (90 minutes) to Clarenville, and, hopefully, back here.
But (Bob Archell please note) if I am busy chatting up a cashier and mis-key my PIN three times, I am locked out of using my Scotia-bank VISA card.
To unlock my card I dial the toll-free number where a recorded voice tells me to reset the pin by visiting my nearest branch which, you have now realized, is 90 minutes drive away.
I think that this means I won't be using my VISA credit card for groceries any time soon, so VISA/Scotia have shot themselves in the foot.
OTOH if I mess up my BMO Mastercard, I might starve to death
Cheers, Chris

Re: Local bank branch closure
It would seem that the answer to all your money problems is to restrict your up-chatting of cashiers to the periods before and after you have concentrated on paying for your purchases...?
Or point out to Scotia the impracticality of their bank-visiting suggestions.
Or pay for everything online, using cut-and-paste? (Do you not have Deliveroo, Just Eat, Uber Eat, DoorDash, et al?)

... or add your card to a digital wallet on your Smart Phone so you can enable payments with a fingerprint instead of a PIN

Chris
Just send me your bank card. I'll draw out some cash and post it to you.

But, but, :sputtering: then it wouldn't be ME shopping, would it?
What makes you think that Scotia cares about its one-time customers in Bonavista?Or point out to Scotia the impracticality of their bank-visiting suggestions.

The only food delivery is Thanksgiving and Christmas when Kerry sends David across the street with a mountain of meat & veggies that usually lasts me four days.
Five if we include the huge jar of gravy.

Thanks Stuart. Apart from smudging traces of chocolate on the devices when the line-up ihas been long, ...
What is a digital wallet when it is home?
I suppose that it will be another Ap on my smart phone, and that suggests I'd have to carry my smartphone to the grocery stores.
Something else to put down somewhere and forget about ...
Now I think about it, whatever happened to The Good Old Days when we didn't need money for groceries; the nice man added it into his book and we paid him at the end of the month with a bank-cheque from a cheque book (for the younger set)
Cheers, Chris

Thanks Graeme, but I still haven't used up all the cash you didn't send me last time.
What do you know about Black Holes?
