"Bird" and "Flying Duck" orchids

Post by ChrisGreaves »

At long last! A chance to reduce the number of topics in this eclectic forum!
Now photographers of birds and photographers of flowers can post together.

The weird and wonderful world of Australian orchids disguised as dragons, fairies and spiders

How wonderful! The Bird Orchid is my favorite. The Flying Duck looks more like a stork to me, but I loved them all. I Googled the Fairy orchid and found the whimsically naughty Naked Fairy (also referred to as the Naked Man) Orchid.

Hi Kim, I agree, the bird caught my attention with its evolution into providing an escape hatch once the insects had done their pollinating trick,

There are some fascinating orchids, not just in Australia. Some of them have a special shape for a purpose, others are merely coincidental.

Thanks Geoff; a great example of the infinite variations available to mutations during an evolutionary process.
