Long live the short lived potato

I suspect that this is as a result of a bad translation.

Spanish "la papa" (fem) is potato, whereas "el papa" (más) is pope.

I guess ephemeral potatoes get eaten immediately, as opposed to the leftovers that turn into bubble and squeak the next day

Perhaps 'potatoes' should have read 'potentates'?
