Continuous Chest Compression CPR

Post by viking33 »

There is a very good video at this link, about the fairly new method of CPR. It's easy to do with no mouth to mouth involved. The more people who learn to do it, the more likelihood of saving a life.(s)
Please take the time to view it. :doctor:

In the US, Red Cross CPR has focused much more on chest compressions for the last few years, because blood circulation is more crucial to survival and reducing brain damage, and compressions have enough effect on air exchange. http://www.njredcross.org/redCrossPosit ... nlyCPR.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; However, they also still train that the airways should be cleared before compressions or breaths are performed.

(I must get myself recertified - I let it lapse.)

This was all over the web about a year or more ago when all the media were reporting it. As a result, I have practiced with a dummy and "Stayin' Alive" and the timing is perfect. I even put a copy of the song on my handheld, just in case.

The Heart Association around here says that it's critical that you SEE the person collapse and not just happen upon someone lying in the street.

Edited to add: Truth is, it wasn't as long ago as I thought: No CPR Class?
