Update: Foxit Reader 4.1

The free PDF reader from Foxit has been updated to version 4.1; they claim to have improved the speed of the reader; apart from that some bugs have been squashed. You can download it from Foxit Software - Foxit Reader 4.1 for Windows.

Note: the Zip version contains only Foxit Reader.exe (just move it to the program folder), not the installer with its unwanted extras. You may find that the exe is blocked. If so, right-click it, select Properties and click Unblock.

Thanks Hans. You didn't know it but you talked me into ditching Adobe's PDF Reader for Foxit, and I'm happy I took your advice.

Good to hear that! Foxit doesn't have some advanced features that are specific to Adobe, but if you don't need those, it is much more pleasant to work with than Adobe Reader.

I avoided v3 because I didn't seem able to install it without its add-on junk.

Now though, following Hans' tip about simply copying the single (exe) inside the .zip version into the relevant \Program Files folder, I've got v4
