Fax service when you don't have a fax

For a colleague:
Please, If there are any, what's out there as a service that will accept a fax and then forward it as an email?
This for a small business that does not have a fax machine, does not have a separate data line, but periodically has to deal with a school board that issues P.O.s only by fax.

What Dave says, but keep in mind that most services offer either e-mail to fax (you can send an e-mail to a fax number) or fax to e-mail (you get a fax number, and faxes sent to this number will be converted and forwarded to you as e-mail).

I hate to appear obtuse, but isn't that what we are looking for? i.e. no fax machine as such, but an email substitute?

What I meant is if your colleague wants to be able to send faxes AND to receive faxes without having a fax machine, he'll either have to sign up for two different services (one for sending and one for receiving), or search for a company that provides both services.

At work, we use InterFAX | Let the internet do your faxing, which does provide both, but it's not free.

This looks good. If I read the pricing correctly there is for Canada a one-time $10 set-up fee and then a $0.07 per page.
My pal's current setup is to have the fax sent to a village store about 10 miles of gasoline away! And back again!!

Years ago, we were using a

service that gave us a phone number that were could use for both sending and receiving. At that time it was a 800 number, but now I think you can get a local number.

It was with eFax.com, but now I see that they have a fee after 30

. They are one of the first services son they have been around for a while. By the way we used this service when we were on our Windows 98 machines on dial up.
