Belarc Advisor can't get past 54%

Post by Sundog »

Today, on running Belarc Advisor, it hung at 54% while "checking the local network of this computer," which was unchanged from the last time I ran it, as far as I know.

Any ideas?

Yes, twice. Also rebooted, then ran again. No change.

I found some reports of Belarc Advisor freezing at 54% (for example Belarc Freeze), but no clear solution. There was a suggestion that a corrupt registry entry could cause this, but it wasn't conclusive. On my PC, it does pause at 54% for some seconds, but then it continues again. This could be a hard one to crack...
Best wishes,
Hans

I emailed Belarc and their Chief Engineer phoned me (!). Since I'm on a corporate network, he indicated that Belarc Advisor can take up to 15 minutes to finish. In the meantime, it's working away in the background, even tho Task Manager says it's not responding.

Sure enough, I let it run, and it eventually reported on my CPU, and listed 8 pages of IP addresses and other details about "my" network.

FYI, for anyone who might stumble upon this thread, Belarc offers an in-house trial via a client account on their server, which I will sign up for. If our tech support people like it, we could get a corporate license, which then would be housed on our server, with no connection or information back to Belarc. To get started, at http://www.belarc.com/products.html, "click here" under BelManage.

I'll try to remember to report back on the trial as well.

If those memory cells don't get overwritten in the meantime.
