Windows 10 graphics update

Post by RonH »

This has just been advised in W10 Updates ...

Since updating to W10 many months ago I do not recall problems with my graphics.
Should I accept this update from Mocrosoft/do I have a choice

Do you have Windows 10 Home or Pro?

W10 Home installed on pc, Hans. I had a look at Intel graphics but could see nothing current ... could be that MS take a long time to advise/update software on other than actual Microsoft. I guess that if it gets installed and causes issues, I can roll back and remove this update?

I'd let it install, you should be able to perform a system restore if it causes problem. If you want to prevent the update from being installed automatically, you'd need the wushowshide utility from How to temporarily prevent a driver update from reinstalling in Windows 10; it's not infallible though.
Best wishes,
Hans

In general I do not use any driver updates from Microsoft except for their hardware, i.e. mouse and keyboards.
I have seen where Microsoft takes so long to release a the OEM driver and a newer one has been released by the OEM.

Also do not upgrade driver just for the heck of it, only when you are problems.

Seems I had no choice ... I left the pc whilst doing something else (Male multitasking  ) and its 'done its own thing' and installed the update.
Seems to be working ... I still have a screen :fanfare:

Thanks for all advice gentlemen and apologies for troubling you about something 'out of my control'.

Well ... something positive seems to have occurred by MS forcing this Intel update. My pc screen opens from Sleep within seconds :clapping:
Long may it continue

... WHY did I open my big mouth  Start up was very fast from Sleep UNTIL I rebooted the pc. Now its back to normal ... a cool 75 sec to screen up. Oh well, I will just have to be patient ...

Agreed Hans.

I have taken another look at the Intel site and run their auto detect programme to check my driver HP/Intel HD Graphics 3000 ... this is the result:

There is a later version but they do make a comment about 'customisation by the manufacturer'.
Safe to install?

You could create a restore point before installing. That way you can always go back.

I did a bit more investigation on the HP site and find that ...
Notebooks that have switchable graphics, users are forced to only use the drivers from the notebook's support and driver page.

So rather than enter the realms of 'doubt' I will leave as-is.
Thanks Hans ... now enjoy your Sunday for I will leave you in peace.
