Save crop area only in Adobe Illustrator
I have a map of the world (not full size). I've selected a crop area with Object > Crop Area > Make, and adjusted the crop box to the area of interest. I need to save only the crop area as an ai file for later modifications, and as a pdf. I don't find applicable instructions in Illustrator Help. I've used Illustrator and somehow accomplished this in the distant past, but it's too long ago and those memory traces have been overwritten.

Never used AI but how about a right click inside the crop area, does that give you any sort of 'crop selection' option, once cropped you would then need just File Save As would you not?
Alternatively, on the Edit menu is there not some sort of crop selection option?

I don't use AI either, but I wonder whether an alternative approach is to make a selection of the area you want, then Copy, then Paste into a new file.Sundog wrote:I have a map of the world (not full size). You would think so, but I find nothing. Illustrator help for "crop" provides no clues.

Sometimes (and I have to figure out how I did it ), if I File > Save As > PDF, automagically the PDF contains only the cropped area. Other times, of course, it displays the whole map, and I have to use the Snapshot Tool to get what I need.

Here's a thread elsewhere that suggests that you are trying to do something that Illustrator is not designed to do.

Ian and Ken, thanks for the recent links, but it looks like Ian's earlier
