Hi appreciated techies; is this [freeby] Kosher or is Windows Defender sufficient protection against the devious kind of this fallen world? :thankyou: Dave

I've been using Windows Defender aka Windows Security for many, many years now and I have never experienced an infection by malware.
So in my opinion, you don't need a third-party anti-virus application.
Best wishes,
Hans

I'll second what Hans has said. I too have been using Windows AV for years and years and have never had problems.

One of the first things I did when I got this desktop Win 10 PC back in 2017 was uninstall the free trial of the AV software that came with it as I saw no need to sign up for a subscription once the free trial ended. I did exactly the same thing when I bought a new Win 11 laptop last year.

Thanks again guys, three endorcements for the inbuilt MS security says it all, this lounge could just as easy have been called; "Peace of Mind Forum". You have all been a lifeboat for me for the past 14 years and have taught me all I have needed to know as I navigate this I.T. Jungle; a constant challenge for a lonely 86 year old. [Sweetheart of over six decades now in care home so my laptop is a lifeline to the outside world.] Cheers Dave.

Thank you for your concern Hans, as a God fearing mortal I know my times are in His hands and appreciate every day that am able to summount the demands they bring. Two of my mates on the allotment site we share - one 19 years younger and the other 4 - are walking with the aid of a stick and Zimmer frame respectively so I count my blessings daily. Regards Dave. Hi Dave, I'm late to this thread and learned a bit, I thought I might have been the oldest member here. I do very much hope your health continues to hold up. Now on to the subject of this thread, I too use Windows Security and have for years. However, once I learned that Malwarebytes plays nicely with Windows Security, I added its real time protection also. I just needed to feel the added protection Malwarebytes provides against malware. Just my way of doing things. Hope you remain well.
Regards,
hlewton

Hello Dave.

I, too, have relied on Windows Defender for years and have, so far, experienced not a single problem. On occasion, when I think there are indications of a problem, I run Malwarebyes Antimalware, the free edition.

Sorry to hear that your sweetheart and you are separated. My bride of 63 years and I, by the Grace of God, continue to live independently at 82.

Thanks for the comments guys, I could do a search for the freeby you mentioned but would fell more sure if you pointed to a site where it can be downloaded from. Yes! and at the ripe old age of 86 I am still driving BUT after 70 years behind the wheel, nemerous factors are persuading me it is time to revert to one of these things. Thanks Have
