kaspersky free 2011 last version

Post by sal21 »

I installed kaspersky 2011 free.
I do a complete scan with this virus scan and I found one or zero threats.
I do the same with spyboot & destroied and it find a double or triple threat!
But then kaspersky is useless?
Advice please.
Thanks.

Kaspersky is certainly not useless. There are several possible explanations.

In the first place, no single security program will catch ALL threats, even the best ones. So it is possible that Spybot Search & Destroy finds something that Kaspersky missed. For that reason, many people use one program as their main protection, but run scans with one or more other programs from time to time for extra security.

In the second place, security programs sometimes report a threat that is not real; this is called a "false positive". When I used Spybot Search & Destroy, it frequently reported false positives, so it may have happened to you too. You can search the Spybot forums to see if the threats it reported are real or false.
Best wishes,
Hans

Sal,
Different AV programs will sometimes come up with different results, depending on how they are configured.
Some Loungers will have one or more AV programs installed on their systems to catch threats by testing to deeper depths than others.

JUST DO NOT HAVE MORE THAN ONE AV RUNNING AT A TIME.
Have one running and keep the other(s) available to run when you choose to manually run them.

Some "threats" discovered by these tools are not considered to be significant by other tools. For example one tool may think that having a cookie from a particular web site is not good and report it as a threat, a different tool may think this cookie is harmless.
