Clicking Links in Email Opens a New Tab in Firefox

Post by BobH »

This might be a Firefox issue, but I had to choose a place to post.

When I receive emails notifying me of responses to threads on forums, if I click the link to take me to the forum page, Firefox opens a new tab even if I already have a tab open for that forum. In the past, the result was to take me to the forum page post (or at least to the thread).

I've looked at Tools|Options in both apps and found nothing that I recognized that relates to this situation.

Hmmm, that's not been my experience with Thunderbird, Bob. As best I remember, it has always opened a new tab when you click a link in an email.

I would think that's a good feature since you may not want to lose the tab(s) you already have open in your browser.

An added note is that MailWasher Pro does the same thing if I click a link in an email preview, which I do occasionally if the email is from someone I trust.

My experience is the same as Al's (and yours). Regardless of the mail client I'm using, if I click on the link in a Lounge post notification message then the link opens in a new tab but I'd expect that behaviour because in Firefox in:
    Tools | Options | tabs
I have ticked the top option:
Open new windows in a new tab instead
