Can't upgrade my Outlook mail account

Post by Dave Davison »

I've have been made aware for quite some time that Outlook was being updated but have been unable to complete the process as it fails to complete -most likely my ineptness. Trouble is, whilst Outlook continues to receive and send mail all thee important emails that I'd saved in folders are missing and another example of the hassle is if I click the "Address" tab it opens the "IN" box. Any advice to overcome this would be most appreciated. I've attached a couple of screen shots to show details entered but it will not complete.  :thankyou: Dave

Just a thought... delete account and reinstall to auto pick-up the correct settings.

1) You've posted this in the 'Outlook Express' bit of The Lounge but I think you are talking about 'Outlook', which despite the similarity in the name is a completely different email client.

2) There is a known problem with Office updates at the moment and Outlook is part of Office. The problem is as you describe, the update process starts but fails to complete. I'm not at my main PC at the moment but I will check it later today and report back with more info on this problem.

There is a very long thread about the update issue I mentioned here:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mso ... 0c3?page=1
I too see this update error when I try to update my Office 2016. Trouble is that long thread it doesn't really give a guaranteed fix.

At the moment I'm ignoring the problem as I suspect MS will silently fix it when a future set of Office updates are released. If I'm still getting the error in three months time I might try the fixes suggested in that thread to see if any of them help.

SORRY HANS, for posting in wrong section, As I said, my intension is to change providers as Virgin comes bottom of the list for service and near the top for pricing. Besides, I have an alternative email client called @GMX.com which is equally as good as both Virgin and Outlook. Thanks for all the comments. Dave

The Office update error that may or may not have been behind Dave's Outlook update problem has finally been resolved by MS. My Office 2016 Click-to-run installation is updating as I type this post.
