Bing Hijack

Post by BobH »

When I started my system today, I noticed an unfamiliar banner at the top of my Firefox browser screen, a la . . .
what is this.PNG
I closed Firefox to run a disk cleaner (Glarysoft), but the banner persisted. When I restarted the browser after running the disk cleaner, Bing loaded instead of Firefox. Now I can't get Firefox to load. Bing loads no matter how I launch Firefox (from a shortcut or from the system menu).

Has anyone else experienced this? It smells of malware to me.
 :chocciebar: :thankyou:

Bing is a website, Firefox a browser.

Do you mean your default browser or preferred homepage has been changed?

Thanks, Leif!

Yes, but I also could not start Firefox by any means.

After moments of senioritis passed, I remembered to run a malware scan which found a bunch of PUPs and one malware file. I removed them and all seems to be normal now.

Well, it looks to me that it is associated with "Powered by Highslide JS".
This notation is in the upper left corner of the attached image.

Thanks, but I'd rather not mess with the stylesheets.
