Chrome does not display web page icons in address bar

Post by jmt356 »

To the left of the web address, Google Chrome used to show a icon corresponding to each web page that I would visit. A day or so ago, I have noticed that in lieu of this customized icon, Chrome now displays an "i" inside of a circle. What does this mean?

Chrome doesn't display favicons in the address bar, only on the page tabs. The same holds for Firefox.
Best wishes,
Hans

If you are referring to the icon highlighted in the graphic, it is for site information.
Clicking on it will show an arroy of current settings and info re. the page.

The item that Rudi highlighted is what I am speaking about. Is that normal in Chrome?

I feel as though there used to be favicons in lieu of that icon.

The latest versions of Chrome (v.53) has changed the icon in the address bar. (To be honest, I never took note of when they changed!)

This is the start of Chrome trying to discourage people from visiting http: pages because they are not encrypted, and they are not forced to provide a certificate that proves the site is what you think it is.

If you connect to an https:// page you will see a padlock icon to show you that the page is safe. If there is a problem with the certificate then you will get a warning that the page isn't safe. At the moment you get the (i) icon to show you that there is information, and when you click on this it tells you that your connection is not private. They have said that in the future they will issue a much stronger warning about using un-encrypted connections.

Firefox appears to be following suit. All that Stuart says above now applies to Firefox.
