SideBySide errors with Fx 9.0.1 on Windows XP

Post by Argus »

Any Fx gurus that know anything about the problem on some Windows XP systems generating SideBySide errors (related to MSFT VC80.CRT) for the Mozilla file browsercomps.dll? It's supposed to be fixed, it seems. At the moment it's filling the System log on one XP machine here.
:ranton:
So much for reducing DLL hell, MSFT, mumble grumble. It's related C++ files; it's not my fault not having the correct Visual C++ runtime libraries, whatever, installed; they are not there for a reason, obviously, I've not used software needing them, and if installing something depending on them, then it better install the files.
:rantoff:
So, does anyone know if it is solved or not over in Mozilla land, and when we can expect an update? (The 9.0 and 9.0.1 came some days before Christmas, and this was discussed after that.)

From that bug report it has been marked as fixed for Firefox 10 which is due to be released on 31st January.

If the bug is a major issue for you, you could install the Firefox 10 beta available from http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/beta/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Note that if you do install the beta you will get updates to Firefox on a regular basis, probably around once every couple of weeks.

Thank you for the prompt reply, Tony!
I guessed that it might be the case, since it only affects some computers.

Yes, installing a beta (to "experience cutting edge" - of no errors :laugh:) would change the update channel, if I understand things correct. Thanks for reminding me.

To minimise the errors in the log I could also go for a record; one month without closing the browser. :grin: (The errors are generated every time you launch the browser.)

I had a look at this page, and related (it detects my language and there are also other links):
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Your link was, for me, redirected to this one:
http://www.mozilla.org/sv-SE/firefox/fx/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I.e. the usual page.
