Another and separate download problem

Post by Cah »

Quite often my wife has a problem where downloads fail to complete. She's using Firefox 4.01 on Japanese XP Pro. The error message says something like:

"[File Name] could not be saved because you cannot change the contents of that folder"

We've checked the file permissions on the download folder and they are fine. We've changed the location and this still happens. Moreover it is usually possible to redownload and the file will save a second time without problem. This suggests the error message is misleading, though we did wonder about where Firefox saves any temporary files while downloading (if there are any). We checked the folder settings for the Firefox profile and noticed a stranger user (lots of numbers in then name) was present. We took ownership of the folder and deleted this additional user but it has returned. So my questions are:

1. Is this extra weird user expected for the Firefox profile folder?
2. How can get downloading to work properly?

Thanks,

Chris
