Just to file away for next time...Access Rich Text is not actually RTF...it is just HTML.

Today was the first day that my new program was used in production. It worked as expected, with two Outlook windows opening. The first contained 300 addresses in the bcc field and the second contained 28 addresses in the bcc field.

The only problem was that the message took two hours to be received. Our DSL ISP is Century Link (used to be Embarq, used to be Sprint) but our email service is through Earth Link.

I guess what I'm asking is whether this delay in receipt is typical or atypical? Does anyone have any experience in this area?

Thanks, in advance.

Did you notice a difference in delivery speed between the message with 300 BCC adresses and the one with 28 BCC addresses?
Best wishes,
Hans

Good question! I will try and contact a few people on the 28 address list and see what time they received the message.

My own email address begins with a C. Since the entire group is sorted by email address, I was in the 300 recipient group.

Attached is a screenshot of the Outlook 2003 Sent Items folder. Note the difference in size between the two messages. I assume that size is a function of the number of recipients as well as other factors.

Am I correct in this assumption?

Hans,

I tried contacting several members in the smaller group to no avail. They had either deleted the message, didn't understand what I was asking or . . .

Interestingly, a second message was sent out last night at 8:16 PM (with a 771 KB pdf attachment). I received it at 8:18 PM, only two minutes later. This leads me to think that Earth Link is doing some kind of prioritization / throttling on their outgoing mail servers such that during peak hours it takes longer to receive a message whose recipient list is large.

This is just my theory. Make sense?

It could well be. Perhaps you could contact EarthLink and ask them?

Hans,

I've thought of doing that. However, I'd prefer not to raise any red flags at this time, if you get my drift.

(Looking for the wink smiley but can't find it right now).
