Power BI

Post by FrecklePaw »

Hi guys, this might be a longshot and not appropriate (in which case my apologies and please remove it), but I genuinely want to use my Excel datasets in Power BI but I want to make a specific type of visualisation that I am not aware of and it might have to be some sort of converted type - I think I really need to chat to someone on a Power BI forum (or if anyone here is a Excel Pivot Tables/data nerd/Power BI expert shout out!)
I am aware there is an 'official' Microsoft forum for Power BI, but I wondered if anyone knew of another 'independent' reputable one, similar to this forum, where I can chat and get advice about all things Power BI?
TIA, sorry if it's not appropriate to post this here - a bit desperate as on a deadline.

I'm not sure how to qualify your post. Do you want a solution or do you just want to "talk about the weather"?

A solution would be nice! Maybe even solutions!

so ask a specific question and preferably attach a file and add a detailed description of the problem

Ok. here is a pic (attached). How can I organise these number ranges into numerical order on my visualisations?

Ah, sorry about that. In the meantime, if I can describe it: it's a very basic pic - shows a simple horizontal bar chart the and y axis has the number ranges in random order thus:

250-499
500-999
1000-4999
5000-19999
>=20000
<250

How can I organise them so that the <250 is at the top, and then in sequential numerical order? Like this:

<250
250-499
500-999
1000-4999
5000-19999
>=20000

at first glance use Pivot Table with defined grouping , you don't need PowerBI to do that

It has to be in Power BI though - any ideas?

How have you done the grouping? I often use a separate 2 column table with the banding names in one column and the order (numeric) in the second, then set the second column as the sort by column for the table.

Hi Rory, thanks for your response. I know what you mean and I will try this! :) I've seen mention of this type of workaround before for categorising stuff in Excel.
I'm very new to Power BI and there's obviously so much to learn!
